Defying Limits, Defining Art: 70 Years of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Celebrated in Major London Exhibition
The Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (VDMFK) proudly announces a landmark exhibition, “70th Anniversary of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists”, marking seven decades of artistic excellence, perseverance, and international collaboration at The Lindley Hall at The Royal Horticultural Halls, from 15th to 18th April 2026.
As the Association marks this historic milestone, the exhibition stands as an invitation to the public to witness how art continues to bridge borders, empower individuals, and inspire communities worldwide.
Bringing together over 120 original artworks, the exhibition will celebrate not only the 70-year legacy of the Association but also the spirit of the Commonwealth and the global artistic community it represents. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to meet some of the world’s most inspiring artists — individuals who, through remarkable skill and determination, create their works by painting with their mouths or feet.
The exhibition will feature works from artists spanning over 33 countries with each artwork standing as a testament to creativity without limitation, ranging from landscapes and portraits to contemporary and abstract compositions that reflect the diversity and shared humanity of the artists’ experiences.
Founded in 1956 by the pioneering German artist Erich Stegmann, the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists is a social impact enterprise and cooperative of 720 artists in 71 countries around the world. Celebrating its landmark 70th anniversary in 2026, the Association supports artists who all have a severe disability of some kind — whether due to birth defects, accident, or illness — and who earn their living by painting by mouth or foot. What began as a small collective of disabled artists has evolved into a global movement united by the belief that art transcends physical limitations and connects people across cultures.
“This exhibition is both a celebration and a reflection,” says Tom Yendell, UK Board Member, Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. “For seventy years, our artists have challenged perceptions of disability and redefined what it means to create. The Lindley Hall will host not just an exhibition, but a living, breathing testament to human resilience and artistic spirit.”
“Being part of the MFPA has given me a global community of artists who understand both the challenges and the beauty of creating without limits. Says Alison Lapper MBE, Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. I’m proud to stand alongside them—to show the world what disability does not take away: creativity, strength, and the power of expression.”
