Norfolk foot painter and pig farmer Peter Longstaff has been interviewed by BBC Look North and BBC Radio 5 Live, and featured on BBC News Online, after his painting “Winter Landscape” was chosen as a Christmas card for the first time.

Peter, who has been a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) for 24 years, spoke to the BBC about how it felt to see his work selected for the MFPA’s 2026 Christmas collection. The milestone is all the more special as it comes in the MFPA’s 70th anniversary year.

Viewers of BBC Look North, the BBC’s regional news programme for the area, heard Peter talk about his painting and his remarkable life story, while listeners to BBC Radio 5 Live heard him share his pride at the news with a national audience. His story was also featured on the BBC News website.

“Winter Landscape” was selected from thousands of paintings submitted by mouth and foot painters around the world. It is the first time one of Peter’s paintings has been chosen as an MFPA Christmas card in the UK since he joined the association in 2002.

Peter said: “I’ve been painting with the MFPA for more than twenty years, so to see one of my paintings chosen for the first time and be part of the 2026 UK Christmas card range makes me very proud. For it to happen in the 70th anniversary year makes it even more special.”

Peter, 65, was born without arms after his mother was prescribed Thalidomide during pregnancy. He ran his own pig farm in Norfolk for 20 years, driving a tractor and working the farm with his feet. When the pig industry slumped in the late 1990s, he sold up, took an art and photography course, and was awarded an MFPA scholarship in 2002. He is best known for his landscapes and still lives in Norfolk.

The MFPA marks its 70th anniversary in 2026. Earlier this year the milestone was celebrated with a major London exhibition attended by HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh, in recognition of seven decades of the artists’ unique work.
